  • 10.01.2022

Despite the emergence of numerous programs, applications, and integrated solutions that simplify the creation of Internet resources, an IT project remains a complex system of actions for its initiator. The person who is responsible for solving the tasks of performing each of these actions is the IT project manager.

Benefits of working in this field

The profession of a project manager in the IT industry and e-commerce remains new, but already shows record levels of demand for its carriers. Although not only demand determines the supply of labor market specialists. Young people go to learn a promising specialty for many reasons. This includes:

  • the possibility of good earnings, especially abroad (without leaving Russia, since we are often talking about remote project support);
  • flexible schedule;
  • the ability to work with several customers at the same time;
  • excellent conditions for rapid growth;
  • IT is interesting, and managing the development of Internet resources / tools from concept to first sale is useful for personal evolution.

Basic qualification requirements

The general criterion for evaluating the professional training of a manager is his experience + diploma. In the West, serious companies involve only specialists with 1–3 years of experience in the field of web promotion and higher education.

High qualification of the performer implies:

  • excellent knowledge of the technical parameters of evaluating the effectiveness of the site;
  • basic knowledge of tools for creating an Internet resource (design, structure, constructors);
  • a creative approach to working on a task determines a deep immersion in modern methods of marketing, aggressive advertising.

Work specifics

For Russia, the profession is quite new, which somewhat complicates the understanding of its essence by project implementers and customers themselves. The key feature of the work is the effective combination of two profiles. De facto, a specialist is required to own several profiles:

  • talented organizer;
  • effective technical master.

Employment, career ladder and wages

As a result, a good manager, employed in the industry of creating/promotion of Internet resources - sites, applications, must know the basics of management well, be guided in each stage of the implementation of the assigned task. Places of work of profile specialists:

  • agencies for the development, promotion of sites;
  • companies that unite participants in the e-commerce segment;
  • PR companies;
  • international organizations with extensive IT infrastructure;
  • all kinds of content exchanges, translation agencies, software developers, etc.

The demand for competent Internet project managers is estimated at 1.2 million people in the European and US markets alone. For Russia, the volume of staff shortages is set for the summer of 2017 at the level of 0.5 million vacancies.

Growth prospects are impressive. You can reach the level of a top manager in website promotion in 1–1.5 years. The modern history of e-commerce knows a lot of cases when, after the first successful project (6–12 months), a specialist became a leader.

What should education be like?

The profession of an IT project manager has not yet been singled out as a separate profile that can be mastered in Russian universities. But for motivated young people, this should not be the reason for a delayed start - in a few years, competition among specialists can become seriously tougher.

Synergy University is already preparing young experts in the conduct/management of Internet projects at the following faculties:

  • information technologies,
  • management,
  • the Internet.

Here, depending on individual inclinations, students master the technical side of creating websites, marketing techniques for their promotion, and much more. We devote 60% of our training time to practice.

Young professionals not only practice tools in the real e-business field, but also acquire useful contacts with potential employers. Many begin the practice of managing IT projects already in the first or second year of study.
