  • 01.05.2024

Back in tsarist times, Moscow gained fame as one of the largest fair centers in the country. Exhibitions, sales and folk festivals were regularly held in its squares, parks and other open spaces. With the advent of Soviet power, exhibition areas began to be actively built in the city to demonstrate the achievements of the national economy. Thus, in 1939 – 1954, a complex of buildings for the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy (VDNKh) appeared.

Even under Peter I, on the site of the current Sokolniki Convention and Exhibition Center (CEC) in Moscow, townspeople gathered - then, in the centuries-old forests, the local nobility organized a hunt. The area got its name due to the fact that here, mainly, falconry was carried out. At the same time, the area for public festivities was cleared. Today, on the territory of Sokolniki Park there is an exhibition center of the same name. After the VDNH pavilions were closed for reconstruction in the 2010s, most Orthodox exhibitions and fairs moved here.

Be vigilant and careful brothers and sisters!

Sometimes, under the guise of pious people, scammers and even thieves hide. There have been cases when counterfeit icons supposedly dating back to the early century were put up for sale at fairs. But in fact, they were painted several months ago under the guise of an ancient icon, saying that it is ancient, and therefore the price is more expensive! Some craftsmen even tied the word grace, saying it has been prayed for for centuries. They allegedly brought fake relics of the holy saints of God from afar. We can say that even fictitious saints who never existed. There were cases when intelligence activities were carried out and clergy or businessmen were robbed.

Report any suspicious characters to us!
