  • 04.02.2021

Huawei manufactures some of the most affordable and popular wireless modems, both fixed and mobile. Their various models use cellular and wired telephone networks to transmit and receive information. The most convenient and practical version is wireless mobile. It can be used wherever there is a cellular connection. That is, by connecting such a device to a computer, you can access the Internet from almost anywhere. It has a compact size, almost always a USB interface, a low price, a wide choice of payment rates, simple operation and installation. About the latter - how to connect and configure a Huawei modem - we will tell you more.

  • We remove the cover from the device and insert a SIM card that supports 4G service into a special slot.
  • Insert the device into the USB port of the computer.
  • In the browser that opens, we see a settings window with empty lines into which you should drive . We drive in the word admin and click on the "Login" button to enter the Huawei settings.

  • We see in front of us a page with several tabs at the top. Select the "Settings" tab and click on the "New Profile" button.

  • In the new window, fill in the empty lines: “profile name” and “access point”. "Username" and "Password" are optional. In the first line, we drive in any name, for example, Olga17, into the Huawei "access point" APN address: internet.olga17.ru. We save Huawei settings.

  • In the next window, you need to set up Wi-Fi on Huawei. We see the lines "SSID" and "WPA-PSK Key". This is the Wi-Fi network name and password. The data for them is located under the cover of the gadget. We drive them in and click "Finish".

Huawei ADSL router: how to connect a modem to a computer

In addition to models with USB, Huawei produces ADSL routers for home use. They work with and distribute the Internet in the same way as USB devices. These routers have proven themselves quite well, but with one important caveat: their antennas for distributing Wi-Fi are designed for small area. That is, roughly speaking, they will transmit the Internet only to the nearest rooms. For apartments with a large area, country houses or large offices, these routers are not suitable.

The difference between this router and the USB version is that it needs to be connected to telephone line. Therefore, you must use the login and password for connecting to the Internet those specified by the Internet provider in your contract with him. All other steps are carried out in the same way as described above in the section "How to configure Huawei modem: step-by-step instruction".

Huawei modem setup is complete. Now you know how to enter the router menu, how to configure it according to your requirements and how to connect to Wi-Fi or 4G using it. With our detailed step by step instructions setup is quick and easy, and you can use your new router at home, in the countryside, and on the go. We will be glad to hear your feedback on working with Huawei appliances!

Many already have access to 3G modems from different cellular companies MTS, Beeline, Megafon, as well as other cellular companies.

In principle, if you bought a modem from a particular company along with a SIM card and tariff plan…. This cellular company and will use only it, then this material will not be of interest to you, since all modems of cellular companies are now installed and configured automatically for the operator for which this modem was purchased, you just have to insert the modem into the USB port and follow the instructions of the driver installer. All necessary settings will be made automatically during software installation. By the way, I must say that everything you need software you will always have it inside the modem itself (that is, the modem is a kind of disk or flash drive) and you simply won’t be able to lose the installation disk with the drivers as it was before, unless of course you lose the modem itself.

All this is true if you use the SIM card of one specific operator and its own modem.

But what if you have a modem of one operator and a SIM card of another? How and why can this happen, you may ask? Well, for example, you bought a modem and a SIM card from one operator, used it and decided to change the operator because you were not satisfied with the tariffs for the Internet or you moved to another place of residence where your operator does not have whose modem you have. There is an option to buy a new modem, but with all the availability, these modems cannot yet be said to be quite cheap. Therefore, the most profitable option leave the modem and change the SIM card to another operator. But there is one BIG BUT! The SIM card of another operator simply will not work in your modem! In order for the modem to detect a new SIM card, it must be reflashed or unlocked. But more on that next time. Although, in principle, it was possible to start with firmware and unlocking this article, but here we will talk about setting up an unlocked modem.

Because when I came across a modem, I just unlocked it, and without planning to write an article (I don’t need to flash it again), let’s postpone the story about unlocking the modem for later. And now I was asked to describe the process of setting up the modem for different SIM cards. So, let's begin!

There is a USB modem MTS Huawei E1550

Where to insert a SIM card, I think it's clear ?! But this modem has another nice feature. This modem can be used as a microSD card reader. By inserting this card into the modem, you can now also work like a regular flash drive. Agree useful bonus. The flash drive is inserted from the side, as if under a SIM card.

In principle, the features of this modem end at the present time with just a USB modem.

So you have already installed the modem and you have a shortcut on your desktop MTS Connect.

We launch it and see that it is already configured to access the Internet with an MTS SIM card

To access the Internet, you just need to have an MTS SIM card in the modem and, of course, a balance. We press the connect button, and you will be happy. But other operator settings are important for us now. (The modem must have a SIM card of the operator that you want to configure at the moment, this is a prerequisite) Therefore, we need to configure them, that is, register them in the settings.

Open the tab " options> options"

A new window opens

Select folder " Profile management.

A new dialog box will open, in which we press the button "New"! This is necessary to create a new connection profile to set up a new operator!

After pressing the key "New"

Fill in the settings.

Preferably after filling in the line " statistics" do not fill in anything else and just after filling this line press OK.(save).

After you save the settings data, the program may close completely, so we will have to open it and repeat the items Open the tab options > options > network.

Choose

Network type

For Beeline, Megafon, MTS operators, select the item « WCDMA only. For operator BVK unfortunately it does not support high speed internet. Choose "OnlyGSM".

Now we launch the second tab

Here it is better to leave a point "All ranges".

There is one more item that we do not touch. "Registration mode"

All settings are completed, click OK!

The modem is set up and ready to go.

Now in the program window, select the settings of your operator and click the connect button.

With the right settings, you will be able to access the Internet from any SIM card. Good luck

Any modem is identified by the computer as a removable disk. This is intended to enable users to download the appropriate programs and drivers with the modem. But when connecting the modem to a set-top box or router, there may be minor problems. Very often, users are faced with the fact that a removable disk is not allowed to be identified for its intended purpose, in modem mode. Here we present several solutions to the problem.

FOR REFERENCE. 3G is one of the technologies for transmitting data over a wireless Internet network. It is based on packet data transmission. The top speed is not too high. But it, as a rule, is enough for viewing a picture and online video, listening to music and mail forwarding. The USB modem is a practical and easy-to-use device. It does not require any supernatural knowledge and skills from the user. They are enclosed in a plastic case and protected from mechanical and other damage. The main advantage of this option is its mobility. You can take the modem with you anywhere with cellular communication. It happens that short-term “gaps” occur in the operation of devices and the device does not respond to commands.

Option 1.

Set your 3G modem to modem only mode using HyperTerminal:

1. We connect the device to a computer with Windows.

2. We enter the "Device Manager". This can be done like this:
START COMPUTER (right button) PROPERTIES DEVICE MANAGER.

5. . After downloading, run the program, write down any name of your choice and confirm your choice by pressing the OK button.

6. Next, remember the port number (from step 4) and select it, confirm your choice by pressing the OK button. A window will open on the monitor screen. Here you need to enter the port speed (again according to point 4).

7. Also, in the window that appears, you must first enter the ate1 command. After receiving a response, click OK.

8. Upon completion of all these manipulations, it is necessary close HyperTerminal and eject the device.

Your modem is now set to Modem Only mode.

FOR REFERENCE. We do the same with the 4G modem. Fundamentally, it is no different from a 3G modem, except for the data transfer rate. 3G works even where there is no LTE. In this case, the Internet transition is performed without interrupting the download process. 4G is at least 10 times faster. But this is not all of its advantages. The difference lies in the way data is transmitted. 3G was introduced about 10 years ago. Its infrastructure is the most developed. It has more intensity and a larger coverage area. Both technologies do not compete with each other. Of course, 4G is more perfect. But they work as a team, constantly improving the quality standards of Internet services.

Clue . When setting usb modem, if you want to see the entered AT commands, then click " file» in the top left menu « Properties»

Check the box in the second line at the top "Echo typed characters locally" and click "OK" twice

3G technology is compatible with all mobile devices. USB 3G modems are designed specifically for computer devices. But 3G is suitable for users who do not need to download a huge amount of information, as the speed leaves much to be desired. It is worth considering that the data transfer speed outside the city may decrease. 4G modem is more suitable for computer, not for mobile devices. They do not have such a wide coverage area, as they began to develop quite recently. They are of higher cost. 4G modems are connected to the computer through a special slot.

Option 2.

In order to switch the modem to modem only mode, you can use another program - 3G_Modem_Mode_Switcher_1.0 (3gsw.exe).

1. We connect the device to the computer. We wait a few seconds until the modem software is installed (if it is already installed, then skip this item). When you launch the USB modem application on your own, close it.

NOTE Note that you will not be able to use many advanced features in modem only mode. The utility is compatible with most USB modems.

3. After the device switching is completed, you must close the utility. Remove the device from the computer and try connecting it via USB to the ZyXEL router.

4. Leave the downloaded modem software on your computer. There is no need to remove it. In the future, you will be able to switch device modes without any problems.

FOR REFERENCE. A modem is a special device that is used in communication systems. It performs the function of modulating and demodulating the signal and is used to connect a computer to the Internet. The principle of operation of the modem is simple: it converts an analog signal into a digital one and vice versa. During signal conversion, the device measures its characteristics and records them in digital form. using a special algorithm. Wireless modems, which are discussed in this article, provide access to the Internet anywhere in our planet.

Option 3.

Use the tool-PortSwitch.exe utility.

Next, go to SETTINGS and select ASII SETUP. In the second line from the top, ECHO TYPED CHARACTERS LOCALLY must be checked. Next, confirm your actions by pressing the OK button twice.

class="eliadunit">

As you know, all modems are first detected by the computer as a removable disk so that you can install the program and drivers to work with the modem.

But in receivers and routers, this removable modem disk often prevents it from being defined for its intended purpose - that is, in modem mode.

The following describes how to disable the removable disk on your USB modem so that you can later use it in your receiver or router in " Modem Only"...

So, How to put a 3G modem into modem only mode?

First option:

The first step will be the preparation of a 3G modem. More precisely, transferring it to the modem only mode.

1. To do this, turn on the modem in a Windows computer.

2. Run " Device Manager". For this: Start->A computer(right key)-> Properties->Device Manager

4. Select the tab" Modem". And remember the information: port number, port speed for the modem

5. Download the program HyperTerminal(if it doesn't exist). We launch. Enter any name. Press " Ok"

6. Select the port number that you remember in step 4. Press " Ok"In the window that opens, enter the speed from step 4

7. In the window, enter the commands: ate1. Waiting for an answer " Ok". Enter the command at^u2diag=0.

After the answer Ok"can be closed HyperTerminal and pull out the modem.

All. The modem is switched to " Modem only"

Note. When setting up the usb modem, in order to see the entered AT commands, press " file» in the top left menu « Properties»

Go to the tab " Settings» and press « ASII Setup»

Put a tick in the second line from the top " echo typed characters locally"and press twice" OK»

Second option:

1. Insert the modem into the computer. Wait for the modem software to install (if not already installed). If the USB tethering application starts automatically after installation is complete, close it.

In "Modem only" mode, all additional functions (including virtual disk with modem software, card reader, etc.) will be disabled. This mode is recommended for working with Keenetic series ZyXEL routers. But in general, the utility is suitable for a large number of USB modems.

In "Mode" Add. functions" additional functions of the virtual disk with modem software, card reader will be enabled.

3. After successfully switching the modem mode, close the utility, remove the modem from the computer and connect it via USB to the ready-to-use ZyXEL router.
