Yandex advertising network and google adsense. How to make money in Yandex Direct or what is better? Google Adsense or YAN! YAN or Adsense? Which system to choose

  • 10.04.2020

Hi all! At the end of last year, I announced an experiment. It's time to put it into practice Subscribe to the topic so as not to miss anything interesting. If something is not clear - ask questions, we will understand.

1. What is required from the webmaster?

It is not necessary to show the site, give passwords or something else.

Nothing special:

  • A site running in YAN or Adsense. If it is not added to some system, then try to add it now.
  • Attendance of the resource from 300 uniques per day. You need to get at least 100 clicks on the ad block. Attendance less will not allow this (or there will be a long time period).
  • On one site, you will need to test 1 place for advertising. The more sites the better. That is, the time for organizing the test will be spent minimally.
  • At the end of the experiment, send me information for each experimental site on: subject, format (blog, forum, etc.), data on CTR, eCPM, average price per click, period, number of impressions, clicks (I will provide a table for data entry).

2. Create an ad rotation

First of all, we need the ads we test to be rotated. There are several options:

1. A simple ad rotator script.

There are many on the internet (just an A/B test). Haven't tried everything. Test.

2. For Wordpress - Ad Injection Plugin

The plugin can be downloaded here. It has not been updated for a long time, but it works for me on the latest versions of WordPress. After the experiment, you can simply remove it. You can read about the setup here. On the tab for adding ad codes, you can set the percentage of impressions. This will be the rotation. The plugin also knows how to display ads in different parts of the page - you must choose the usual place for the blocks.

There are other plugins as well. Find - use. The main thing is that the ads rotate and receive the same number of impressions.

3. realbig.media service

The service is here (free, there is a traffic limit, but I think no one will reach it). It is very convenient for the experiment - it allows you to quickly set up the rotation.

  • First you need to add a site.
  • Then a block.
  • We add ads for rotation to the block.

For complete convenience, you can provide access to adsense and YAN data to collect CPM (revenue per 1000 impressions). Attention: just in case, I will disclaim responsibility - I do not vouch for the service and the confidentiality of the data to which you give access.

4. Any option of your choice

If you know other options for rotation - implement. There is nothing fundamental in the previous paragraphs.

3. Place where to place the rotator

It is highly desirable to choose the most clickable place. Chances are you already have one. This is usually a block after a few paragraphs, after the content, or after the heading.

4. What we rotate

The color scheme and design of ads should be as similar as possible.. All blocks must be responsive. If a blue heading is taken in YAN. then in Adsense it should be taken in blue. Of course, the blocks themselves will be different, but our task is to increase the level of similarity for the quality of the experiment.

What formats to compare. I offer the following options:

1. For sites with traffic less than 1000 uniques per day.

Here I advise you to rotate 2 ads:
- adaptive (maximum netboard size - 580 by 400) google adsense (instruction for full adaptation here)
- YAN Motion block. It was conceived as a mobile block, but now it works well on desktops.

2. For sites with traffic over 1000 uniques per day.

Here I offer not 2 ads, but 4 (2 YAN and 2 adsense):
- adaptive netboard;
- YAN Motion.
- old direct blocks (old codes can be found here). Adjust the size and number of ads to fit the size of the netboard.
- Google Adsense "Ads in article" (native).

Important : create blocks so that they can be easily found in statistics (names, channels, and so on). Also note the dates of the experiment - do not take data on partial days.

5. When will the experiment be conducted and when will the results be taken?

The experiment starts today (I'm already collecting statistics) and will continue until the end of April. Of course, you can connect later (accordingly, your statistics will be collected later). Time frames are needed to motivate participation.

If you got here in May, it's okay: create your own experiment, read what other participants did and share your results.

Each ad must generate at least 100 clicks or 10,000 impressions. A more truthful result will show 300 clicks and 30,000 impressions. In general, the more, the better, but still within a limited time frame (otherwise, other factors may be involved).

6. What then?

After you have reached key indicators clicks and / or impressions, write about it here, in private messages or by mail ( [email protected]). I will send you a table that you will need to fill out (anonymized data on CPM, clicks, topics, and so on). After collecting data on the majority of participants, I will consolidate and publish the data.

Have questions - ask!

Let's determine what is more profitable: Adsense or YAN!

Hi all! In today's article, we will talk with you about the earnings of a blogger in YAN ( advertising network I'm index), namely earnings on contextual advertising.

Surely you noticed that I recently removed Google Adsense ads from the blog and installed Yandex Direct. Why, why? I'm experimenting... I want to know which advertising brings more money, Adsense or Direct. By the way, in the following articles I will conduct a mini review of the experiment, therefore.

So! Let's start with a little introduction! Finally, they took me to the YAN, applied for adding a platform 5-6 times, they constantly refused ... If I don’t submit an application, I receive an answer in 5-7 days:

I don’t know why they didn’t like my site (website), but in general, according to all the rules, it seems to fit. I read somewhere on some forum that if the answer from the moderators does not come within 3-4 days, then most likely they did not consider it, it was considered by a robot. And the robot in 95% of cases rejects the site. These are the things... Well, that's not the point... The main thing is now everything is fine.

By the way, I note that I applied not through the Yandex website itself, but through the Yandex Advertising Network Partner Service Center - Profit-Partner. The application in it is also considered by the Yandex moderators, but here for some reason I was immediately accepted, which made me very happy.

Let's start with the most important thing. Far from all sites are taken to Profit-Partner, you can participate in the conditions. Here are the most basic conditions:

- attendance (per day) more than 300 uniques (by the way, there were cases, they took without 300).
- the site is located on a paid hosting (blogspot, livejournal, mail, etc. do not roll).
— site audience — Russians and Ukrainians
– the age of the site is at least 1 month

In Google Adsesne it is easier, there is at least 2.5 people a week attendance and you will be hired without problems, here it will be more difficult with this.

It’s too early for me to talk about where more money is made in adsense or direct, it takes time, as I said, I will publish a small mini review in the following articles. So far, about 300 rubles have run up in 3 days. Now I would like to tell you why I was interested in making money on Yandex contextual advertising and why it is better to register through the Profit-Partner CSP.

First, about why Yandex was interested. See. If we take google adsesne ads, then ads corresponding to the subject of your site (blog) are shown in it (in advertising contextual blocks). That is, if you have a blog about cooking, then ads will be shown on culinary topics. I think you understand.

In Yandex, everything is a little different. Here, in contextual advertising blocks, ads are shown not only corresponding to the subject of the site (blog), but also those that will be of interest to the visitor of your resource. Now I will explain in more detail.

You sit at the monitor screen, climbed into google to find information about buying a Lada Kalina Universal car. You drive the phrase “where to buy Lada Kalina Universal” into a Google or Yandex search and it gives you an output (a list of sites with information).

At this point, the data is entered into the browser cache. Further, for example, you go to another site, maybe even on a different topic, but it has Yandex contextual ads, and what can happen?

The Yandex script will take data from your browser's cache and will show ads that matched your search queries. You typed Lada Kalina Universal in Google, so it will show you ads about Lada Kalina in some blocks. I think it's understandable!

My grandfather wants to buy here new Lada Kalina Universal, so the day before yesterday I was looking for a long time where it is better to buy it in St. Petersburg, the data was entered into the browser cache, now I won’t go to any site (where there is advertising from Yandex), I see ads about Lada Kalina everywhere. Here are the things. I believe that Yandex has a big advantage over Google in this. More people will click on your ad.

I was also interested in Yandex by the fact that here the type of contextual ads is much more beautiful. Personally, I like Yandex context more than Google. And the ad settings themselves are more functional here ...

1. Support on highest level. I asked a question about acceptance into the YAN, they answered me right away, and even so friendly, plus they gave free recommendations (sent by e-mail) on how to increase the chances of getting into the YAN and what needs to be done if your site (blog) is not accepted. In general, well done guys, they work with a bang.

2. There is a system of bonuses. Nicely done by the way. You earn money on Yandex advertising, you are credited bonus points, in the future these points can be exchanged for various goods and services.

For 625,000 points you can place your resource in the Yandex Catalog for free! How do you like this arrangement? Why do you need to add a site (blog) to the YaK? Read here - "". Also in Profit-Partner there are various interesting promotions!

3. Withdrawal of funds is very convenient. You don’t need to wait until you have $100, like in Adsense, for example, in YAN you can withdraw from 1 ruble. Payments are made automatically. You can withdraw to Yandex Money, WMR, WMZ, PayPal, ePassporte, Privat 24, bank transfer.

4. I don’t know if this is true or not, but somewhere, again on the forums, I read that if the Yandex code is installed on the site (blog), then the resource will be indexed by Yandex itself faster. The code from gogole adsense is installed, then there will be a quick indexing from Google. Don't know. I'm not going to confirm, but if so, then good!

5. The most interesting. Profit-Partner has an affiliate program. Attract new members to the Profit-Partner CSP and get 5% of your partners' earnings. For every 1000 rubles earned by your partners, you will receive 50 rubles. What if there are 100 partners?

There are still other possibilities, but I think I listed the most basic ones. Now let's move on to placing and configuring context blocks. First of all, you will need to add your site (website or blog) to the system, it will automatically go for moderation. After you add it and it is APPROVED by MODERATORS, then after that you will need to get the script code for the ads, place it in the right place on your resource, and then send the platform back for moderation.

The second step is to let you know that the code has been placed on your website (blog) and you can start taking into account clicks on ads, impressions, CTR, and everything else... You can place no more than 9 blocks with ads on one page. There are only three blocks in Adsense.

So what else. Yes, that's what. In the Profit-Partner CSP, you can also earn not only on contextual advertising, but also on placing a banner on your resource. Go to the site and click "For bloggers" at the bottom. There is all the information what and how. The scheme is simple, you negotiate the conditions for placing a banner from Profit-Partner on your blog, agree, place a banner - you get money. Usually paid monthly!

By the way, do not think that if you have a high attendance, then you will be paid more. There may be more, but basically the guys are interested in what phrases visitors mainly come to your blog from search engines.

Well, that's basically all for today. Although no, I didn’t say the most important thing until a permanent audience is formed on your blog and there is good traffic, don't worry about making money from ads- kill your blog!

If we make an initial conclusion that Google adsense or Yandex Direct is better, then for now I prefer Direct, of course. More will be seen!

And what kind of contextual advertising do you place on your resources? Adsense, Direct, maybe Runner? I will be glad to hear the answers in the comments. By the way, what do you think about YAN, and especially about Profit-Partner? Is it a good company or not?

I am finishing the post. All the best. Lastly interesting video. Just a roar...

P.S. How do you like the article? I advise you not to miss information about new free video courses and blog contests!

Sincerely, Alexander Borisov

I ran a test where half of the visitors were shown adsense ads and the other half were shown YAN advertising.

Details, as well as a description of how to test which ad units are more profitable, in the article "".

Initial data

The nature of the traffic: search traffic roughly 60/40 in favor of Google

Experiment result

During this time with AdSense earned 3.75 dollars:

During the same period, 473.71/62.5 = $7.58 were earned in YAN:

CPMV (cost of displaying one thousand blocks): 41.25 rubles.

conclusions

The Yandex Advertising Network turned out to be twice as profitable as AdSense. This result surprised me a lot. Even if the revenue per thousand impressions of the AdSense block had not dipped twice, AdSense and YAN would have been equivalent in terms of income - I did not expect such a result.

The tested AdSense unit never dropped below $0.30 CPM throughout the entire time. Such a sharp drop in the relative size of the tested block seems very strange to me. If we assume that only visitors who come from the Google search engine bring in AdSense revenue, then this fits into the data obtained.

The explanation is as follows: previously 50% of visitors came from Google and only they brought income. Now, only half of these visitors were shown AdSense ads, so we find that visitors who see AdSense ads and who switched from Google make up 25% of the total number of visitors to the site. Hence the drop in income by exactly 2 times. To confirm this hypothesis or refute it as far-fetched, I launch a new experiment: for visitors who come from the Google search engine, only AdSense ads will be shown, and for visitors who come from the Yandex search engine, only YAN ads. If the theory is correct, then the CPM of the tested AdSense unit should not only return to its original value, but also increase significantly. Details and code for implementation in

I wanted to conduct an experiment with many participants to determine what is now more profitable for making money: "Yandex Advertising Network or Google Adsense?". I even wrote a large and detailed instruction on how to do it simply and easily. Unfortunately, no one but me did it. Anyway.

Many wrote that they wanted to see the results, so I am publishing not a massive, but a mono-experiment with 6 sites =). For convenience, I created a visual pivot table. The post is short, but I hope it's no less interesting for that.

Remember, I've done 2 similar tests before:

Today is part 3. It is good to conduct such tests 1 time every year or two. Why? Firstly, the composition of advertisers is changing (some large ones may come or, on the contrary, leave this or that system). Secondly, the traffic on the sites is changing (today it is visited more by requests of one topic, in 6 months - by another). Thirdly, new formats are emerging, the income from which can surpass the competitor.

  1. Formats advertisements roughly similar. For example, there is no Yandex advertising network (they were not included in the experiment).
  2. The same color scheme. Where it was possible to set color scheme, it was set with identical settings.
  3. Ad rotation. It is important to compare not in equal time periods, but in the process of rotation. Thus, the experiment is set on the same traffic.
  4. The number of clicks/impressions - from 200/20000. The more the better, but the period should be limited. Therefore, I do not recommend running tests on sites with low traffic (100-200 per day).
  5. The experiment involved only 1 ad unit on each site in the most clickable place.

pivot table

What happened? I am posting a table.

Decryption:

  • Responsive "Netboard" - so I call it with the largest size for the netboard format;
  • The old YAN code is the old Direct (which was before RTB, take the code);
  • RTB Motion - Yandex Advertising Network block for mobile devices. Relatively recently, it also unscrews perfectly on desktops (size like Netboard, animation).

Who has won?

Surprisingly, YAN won in the 3rd part. I bet on Adsense to win. Does this mean that you need to remove all Adsense from the site and cover it with direct? Of course not:

  1. Your sites may produce completely different results. Before making a decision, it is necessary to conduct a similar experiment (link to instructions at the top of the post).
  2. If the systems showed the same earnings, then advertising must be placed consolidated - 50/50 (+ rotation in one place of 2 different blocks). For test subjects #3, 4, and as option 6.
  3. If a specific service wins, then focus on it, but do not completely remove the competitor - 70/30. Subjects #1, 2, and 5.
  4. Don't forget about other unique formats like link blocks (though they are currently ).

What makes you more profitable? Waiting for your comments !

Foreign traffic is successfully monetized through Google AdSense. Installing RAN blocks for US visitors is pointless.

Anton Subbotin

Making money on websites is a popular direction of moneymaking, which has been developing for the second decade. The rules, monetization methods, search engine filters are changing, but you can still make money here. Contextual advertising, partnership programs, referral links, direct advertisers, selling goods and services - this is not the whole list of options.

This article will discuss how to make money on contextual advertising Google AdSense and YAN.

Features of work

Webmasters constantly say that the context is no longer bringing in normal money, in 2010-2013 there was a peak, and now partners are collecting crumbs from holiday table. There is a downward trend in income, but there are still many advertisers in commercial topics. Refusing their money is stupid, especially when no banner or teaser network can boast of such indicators.

Only affiliate programs and direct advertising sales can compete with YAN and AdSense. But in the first case, you need thematic offers, and in the second, you need time to search and negotiate. This scheme will work if the site has authority, traffic and profitable topics. It is unlikely that anyone will buy impressions on a portal about, for example, ecology. But in contextual networks such a project is accepted with pleasure. And although such a niche belongs to the pool of cheap topics, it will gradually pay off the income for creation and support.

In addition to search engine services, there are competitors like Begun, but they are already hopelessly outdated. The cost of clicks and CPM is much lower than in AdSense and YAN. There is also a MaxTarget service that pays for showing ads on indexed pages with traffic. Platform representatives talk about the high cost of impressions compared to contextual networks. In the screenshot, the automotive site earns almost 900 rubles a day.

Contextual advertising as the main way to monetize the site

A beginner, in order to make money on contextual advertising, needs to study theoretical aspects context networks and test different block layouts. For search engines, the sale of advertising in the SERPs and on partner sites is one of the priority ways of monetization. They have invested millions of dollars in services and paid them back long ago. Yandex's profit is growing exponentially every quarter, and advertisers are the main source of income.

How contextual advertising works on the site

Behind complex terms, settings and functional modules lies a simple mechanism. Entrepreneurs go to Yandex.Direct and Google Adwords to promote your products and services. They can display their ads in a variety of ways:

  • in search results;
  • on websites;
  • in mobile applications.

Advertisers prioritize search campaigns, but partner sites in some cases can bring more conversions with a lower budget. That is why when setting contextual advertising many PPC professionals focus on contextual media formats.

Advertisers create a campaign in Yandex or Google, top up the balance and begin to "roll" the ads. In order for their ads to be shown on the site of the webmaster who added his site, the following conditions must be met:

  1. The site has been approved by moderators.
  2. The pages do not contain prohibited content.
  3. The project falls under the display conditions set by the advertiser and is not on the black list.

The webmaster receives income from impressions of ad units and clicks on them. The first model brings the minimum profit, but the second is 90-95% of total amount monthly income. The advertiser pays not to site owners, but to contextual networks. They take their commission, and transfer the rest to partners if the random click recognition system does not reject the transition.

Yandex and Google do not provide full statistics to webmasters, so it is impossible to find out how much an advertiser paid per click. Adsense account settings indicate that the publisher's network revenue is 68%. That is, if the price of the transition is 5 rubles, then the webmaster receives 3.4 rubles.

The Yandex advertising network, unlike Google, does not disclose data on the share of webmasters. On specialized resources, users complain all the time about a decrease in income, so the size of the commission, most likely, changes all the time.

How and how much you can earn by placing Yandex or Google ads on your website

The principle of operation of YAN and Adsense is not difficult to understand, but to calculate in advance the monthly income from contextual advertising is a task from the category of “inventing a perpetual motion machine”. You can build theories, analyze the statistics of similar sites, but in each case, the indicators will be different.

The amount of monthly earnings depends on such factors:

  1. visitor region. User clicks from Belarus, Ukraine and Russia are cheap. But the traffic from foreign countries(USA, Netherlands, Germany, Canada) is converted into good money. The numbers sometimes differ by dozens of times. Moneymaker Vadim Kurilo made an interactive map of the cost of transitions in different regions on his blog. At the top of the list are Australia, Norway and Switzerland.
  2. Subject. The cost of a transition on a legal or medical site is usually higher than on a gaming or student portal. In theory, this rule does not always work, but the amount of monthly income in expensive niches is always higher.
  3. CTR. The more clicks, the higher the profit.
  4. Block design. It echoes the previous point. If you adapt ads to the design of the site, click-through should increase.
  5. Location schemes. And again there is a binding to the CTR. Choosing the optimal scheme will help increase the number of clicks and the income of the webmaster.

The conditions above are relevant for AdSense, and all items except the first one are suitable for YAN, since Yandex ads on its website are shown only to residents of the CIS. Foreign traffic is successfully monetized through the Google partner service, it makes no sense to install Yandex Advertising Network blocks for US visitors.

To estimate the approximate level of income in different subjects, let's analyze the statistics of lots with Telderi.

An automotive site with a traffic of ≈ 4.5 thousand unique visitors per day brings 15–30 thousand rubles in AdSense.

The project about gadgets earns 15,000 rubles a month with 3,000 unique visitors per day.

The catalog brings 150 thousand rubles from CPA and context. YAN is 35% of the total income. The traffic is kept at the level of ≈ 95 thousand visitors daily, but the effect of monetization by the Yandex context is weak.

Comparison of YAN and AdSense: profitability, simplicity and reliability

Beginners are interested in how much they can earn in the Yandex or Google advertising network, but, as mentioned earlier, the amount of income is difficult to predict in advance. In most cases, earnings on contextual advertising in YAN are less than in Adsense. But there are exceptions to the rule.

Google AdSense boasts a large number of advertisers and profitable formats. Otherwise, the conditions for webmasters are unfavorable. Since 2019, the moderation of new sites in Adsense has become tougher. Previously, if the account already had at least one accepted site, the rest of the sites were accepted automatically. Now moderators manually check each web resource, and more and more on thematic forums you can find ads "Buy an AdSense account." The service “tightens the screws”, not only small pages with a template design, but also sites for people (SDL) with non-standard functionality are rejected.

In the examples from the previous section, Adsense was always ahead of Yandex context. In the confrontation between YAN or AdSense, Google wins by a margin. Let's consider one more example. The construction portal earns 6,500 rubles monthly in AdSense, and advertising system Yandex brings 9,000 rubles.

To increase the effectiveness of contextual advertising on the site, the webmaster needs to constantly work in this direction.

Tips:

  • Test different layouts and non-standard places. You can set the block under the header, in the sidebar, after the content, or set up a sticky format on mobile devices.
  • Use all types of blocks to determine the most profitable ones.
  • Set up ad targeting. Responsive ads work great on smartphones, and big stretch marks on desktops.
  • Block sites with cheap impressions. Webmasters share blacklisting updates in this thread on the Searchengines forum.
  • Sign up for the Realbig service. He knows how to determine the most profitable formats.

In context networks, like other systems, there is seasonality. The decline in income occurs at the same time - after new year holidays. "Drawing" is observed until the May holidays.
