The mobile operator velcom offered its subscribers a "people's" smartphone. The ultra-cheap device costs 39.90 rubles and is designed to stimulate the transition of subscribers to third-generation networks, the company's press service said.

The appearance of a "people's" smartphone will open access to 3G technologies to the general population of the country. First of all, it will be of interest to subscribers in the regions who still use conventional push-button telephones. In addition, it can be used as an additional, second smartphone.

“Now there is no reason for subscribers to tie themselves only to GSM-communications. A new 4-inch smartphone can be purchased for the price of an inexpensive mobile phone and thus open the way to the use of new technologies. Ultimately, this should lead to a more massive transition of subscribers from the second generation format to 3G.”, - noted in velcom.

As a "people's" smartphone acted ZTE model Blade L110. It is distinguished by a 4-core processor, 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory. The device has two standard cameras - the main one at 5 megapixels and the front one at 2 megapixels. The smartphone supports 3G standard and two micro-SIM. The device is controlled using Android 5.1 OS, which distinguishes it from other budget models with older platforms.

The smartphone is sold in all regions of the country with a 62% discount. "Social" price is valid until the end of the year when connected to tariff plan"About everything at once" with a subscription fee of 1.99 rubles or any tariff of the "Smart" and "Business" line. Both new and existing velcom subscribers can take advantage of the offer.

The decision to launch a mass-produced "people's" smartphone in velcom is associated with the large-scale development of the "new 3G" - the launch across the country base stations UMTS-900 standard. Now velcom's third generation network is available on 80% of the territory of Belarus, and by the end of the year its coverage will be almost equal to that of GSM communications. Thus, mobile Internet and HD-format voice calls reach the most remote corners of the country. In addition, the quality of communication in cities is improving, which is especially noticeable in densely built-up areas, on the basement floors of buildings and inside buildings with massive walls.

“Practically all regions now have a stable 3G- communication from velcom, so not only urban, but also rural residents can use modern technologies connections. There is only one deterrent - not all subscribers switched from regular mobile phones to "smart". A "people's" smartphone will correct the situation: it can be presented to elderly parents or growing children so that they are always in touch and can freely use high-quality voice communications and the Internet in Everyday life. All this should lead to a reduction in the “digital divide” in Belarus, both geographically and socially.”, - explained in velcom.
