How to open an auto parts store and keep profit. How to open an auto parts store How to sell unwanted auto parts

  • 04.07.2023

A car is an attribute of a modern person. It's hard without him these days. Some people even refuse to go to the store if their car is being repaired. Alas, vehicles break down very often, therefore, car repairs are now more relevant than ever. Moreover, even an excellent Hyundai Santa-Fe, only bought in a salon, can break down on the way home from this very salon - this is exactly what happened to my friend. This proves very handily that people need all sorts of service stations, as well as auto parts stores, because without them their cars would be in the garage with oily engines, leaking siphons, cracked crankshafts and ... well, you understand.

Analysis of the market for the sale of spare parts

First of all, let's discuss the obvious thing - market analysis. In particular, this analysis will help us determine which store specialization is better to open. For example, we need to open a store where spare parts for cars of the Russian automobile industry will be sold, or it is still better to give preference to a spare parts store for foreign cars.

It is quite obvious that in Russia (in any city) there are the most cars of the Russian industry. Usually this is a VAZ, which breaks down very often (no offense to the Russian manufacturer). I myself had such a car, and 60% of the time I owned it was under repair. It may seem logical to open such a store, but you are not the only one so literate. Perhaps this niche is already occupied in your region, so there is no point in opening something like this. There are 2 options:

  1. Look for another region where there is no such business yet;
  2. Engage in the sale of spare parts for foreign cars.

Most likely, it is better to sell spare parts for Korean cars such as Hyundai, Kia, Chevrolet, etc. Despite the popularity of VAZ models, more and more people no longer prefer to buy these cars. Now Korea supplies very high quality cars to the Russian market, but they cost a little more than VAZ models. There is a possibility that soon all sorts of frets there will fade into the background, and the market will largely belong to Korean concerns. These machines are also in need of repair and spare parts for them are very much in demand. Therefore, by opening a spare parts business that is more focused on Korean transport, you definitely will not lose.

Registration of a spare parts business and search for premises

To decide on the form of business registration, you need to compare 2 possible options. You can open an LLC or register as an individual entrepreneur. The second option is more convenient, because. IP registration is carried out quickly, it requires little money, and even a child can handle bookkeeping here (well, in a figurative sense). With an LLC, everything is much more complicated, but as far as I know, the income of an individual entrepreneur must, by law, be less than the income of an LLC. In any case, for starters, it is better to open an IP, then see for yourself.

Finding a place is a real headache. It makes no sense to sell spare parts somewhere in the wilderness, because. getting there is difficult. The location of the store near the car wash, tire shop or other automotive services is appropriate. The best option is on the roadway. Each driver, willy-nilly, and pay attention to the store, passing by. Perhaps you have other options for choosing a better place?

The right place for business is half the success

Buying commercial real estate is expensive these days. It’s cheaper to rent or lease it – it’s up to you how lucky you are. Later, if the business really goes up, it can be completely redeemed. At a minimum, the area of the store should be 50 square meters. and more. You also need to provide a place for a warehouse - some auto parts are very large overall. The presence of commercial equipment in the store goes without saying.

Store assortment

What breaks down most often in Korean-made cars? If you believe the statistics, then the chassis suffers the most, because. roads in Russia and Ukraine are far from being of the best quality. The Koreans make the engine with a bang, and the Russian VAZ can only be envied. Therefore, first of all, spare parts for the chassis are needed. Then you can order valves, timing belts and other elements that ensure the operation of internal combustion engines. Last but not least - materials for the interior of the car.

It should be noted the possibility of organizing a business on used spare parts. To do this, you can always organize a service for receiving such spare parts, i.e. their ransom. By buying cheap, you can always sell spare parts for 20-30% more, which will bring additional profit.

Business personnel

2 salesmen who are very knowledgeable about car mechanics - that's all the staff you need. You can do business and organize yourself. Whether an accountant is needed is hard to say, because. Doing bookkeeping isn't that hard. However, if finances allow, then you can also hire an accountant - he will not have to work very much.

Finance

It is difficult to calculate exactly how much money you need to start a business selling spare parts. For this, there are special companies that will offer you a complete plan for money. I can only estimate an approximate figure - 1 million rubles. The payback period, according to the source (where I got the article from), will be 1-1.5 years. Basically, not a very long time.

The number of cars on the roads is constantly growing, which means that the need for auto parts stores is also increasing. Where to start and how to open an auto parts store? You need to start by determining what you want to sell. Parts, accessories, chemicals, oils. If you want to sell everything at once, then the investment, respectively, is greater.

If this is, for example, auto chemical goods, then you need to find someone who understands it and find out what you need to buy first. If these are spare parts, then you need to know which cars you want to sell spare parts for.

How to complete the warehouse of spare parts? Firstly, all consumables must be available: brake discs, pads, suspension parts - ball, tie rods and tips, all filters. There is no point in taking something global, like a roof for a car.

Be sure to know the sore spots of the cars for which you sell parts. You can easily find this information on online forums where owners share their experiences with car breakdowns and maintenance. Each car has its own “sores” that you need to be aware of.

When you know about the weak points of cars, you can order parts in advance. The longer the delivery of parts from the dealer to you, the cheaper it will cost. If you place an order “for tomorrow”, then you will be given a spare part from the warehouse that has lain there for a long time, and they will charge one price for it, but if you order a part, say, 2 months in advance, then it will not stay in the warehouse, as it passes in transit, so the markup is lower.

As a result, you get parts cheaper and in stock so when customers call, you can offer them to come and buy right away, which may even be cheaper than if they buy a part to order with a 2-week lead time in a regular parts store.

How are spare parts selected? There are original catalogs of automakers, in which each spare part has its own number. There are also special catalog programs that extract numbers of identical non-original spare parts from the original number.

Many car owners already have their own established preferences, while others, on the contrary, trust the choice of the seller.

Be sure to have at least two options for spare parts - expensive and cheap. Three are even better - expensive, average, cheap. Start with the most expensive offer and end with the cheapest. The shock of a large price will make the middle option more preferable to buy. If there are three options, then they will often buy the middle one.

The markup depends on how the spare part was received by the seller, and on the spare part itself. The trend is as follows: the more expensive the spare part, the lower the margin. On average, it is 25-30%.

Clients often do not know what they need. Will have to consult. For the seller of spare parts, the main thing is to learn how to work with catalogs. Without a computer, this is by itself unrealistic. And on a computer, you can find the desired part in the catalog in real time.

Accounting for goods in the store

You need to keep track of applications. If customers come and ask you for something you don't have, often, be sure to stock it. In the end, the nomenclature will form by itself at the request of customers. It is very important to keep a record of not only actual, but also lost sales. If 5 people wanted to buy a certain spare part from you within a month, then it makes sense to have this spare part in stock.

In order to quickly replenish stocks in the warehouse, you must have a debugged accounting system. Critical parameters of safe balances must be determined, and if the next sold spare part reduces the balance to a level below the critical one, then it should automatically fall into the next order.

The main task is to find a balance between the breadth of the range and turnover. Spare parts in the warehouse are frozen money pulled out of the general circulation. The lower the demand for a spare part, the longer the money is frozen.

The specifics of the auto parts trade

The volume of demand for various positions is subject to fluctuations. The main demand is for mechanical parts, that is, those that are subject to the greatest wear.

Approximate ratio of spare parts groups in total demand:

  • electrical - about 23%;
  • bodywork - about 20%;
  • mechanics - about 57%.

The specifics of the spare parts trade is such that 50-60% of sales come from 5-10% of the range. If working capital is limited, then you should focus on the most popular positions.

Supplier selection

Remember that you should always have a "fallback", and preferably two. One main supplier and two backups, in case there are any problems with the main one. Schemes for the supply of rare spare parts under the order should also be worked out.

The customer is a client dealing with contract spare parts for Japanese cars. The group was created recently from scratch, advertising was not conducted before. A unique offer was a guarantee of up to 10 days for testing the part, as well as the ability to order almost any contract part for a Japanese car.

A contract part is an original spare part from a Japanese car, but without a run in the Russian Federation. I will not delve into the topic, although during the project I studied the topic very deeply 🙂
The client himself is in Vladivostok, buys spare parts directly from Japan, and then delivers them to any point in Russia by courier services. A good, “ecological” business, we liked the project and we gladly took it on.

The purpose of the test campaign was to increase the number of subscribers in the group, with a price within 30 rubles for the introduction (customer's request). The figure is conditional, the customer put it rather “for show”, since it was the first time he dealt with the target (in general, without a test, it is extremely difficult to determine how much a subscriber will enter the community and most often such “forecasts” are nothing more than guessing on coffee grounds) .
It would also be a positive result to receive requests, questions and applications during the test. Allocated to the advertising budget 5000 rubles. Quite modestly, but in principle the amount is sufficient to conduct a test.

Portrait of target audience from the client looked like this: car owners of Japanese cars are more in the budget and middle price segment than owners of luxury cars (Infiniti, Lexus), age from 22 to 45 years, mostly men, geo-Russia and Kazakhstan.

Since delivery to Kazakhstan is more expensive and more problematic, we decided to work on the test only in Russia and only for men, since the advertising budget was not very large anyway.

On the test, we decided to work out the following audience segments:

1. Audience of direct competitors
2. The audience of communities of fans and lovers of JDM (Japan Domestic Market - lovers of Japanese cars in short).
3. Community audience for specific brands of Japanese cars, the most popular in Russia. We decided to start with Toyota and Honda.
4. Audience Interest category “Auto/moto”

Before setting the target, we analyzed the customer's community and identified a number of shortcomings that could adversely affect the conversion. Everyone remembers that it is impossible to drive traffic to an unprepared community, right? In our case, the customer quickly fixed everything and we moved on to setting up the target.

Worked with both promo posts and side target/special format

Audience of direct competitors

Here we have collected all direct competitors of the customer. We selected both direct competitors who also sell contract spare parts by mail in Russia, and those who sell spare parts only in their city.

Community audience of fans and JDM lovers

With the help of Cerebro, we found all the JDM-themed communities and gathered those who are members of three communities at the same time.

Community audience for specific brands of Japanese cars

A little more about the collection of this audience. We analyzed and selected all the most popular brands of Japanese cars, and got the following list:

  • Infinity,
  • lexus,
  • mitsubishi,
  • Nissan,
  • toyota,
  • subaru,
  • mazda,
  • honda,
  • Suzuki,
  • Daihatsu,
  • Datsun,
  • Isuzu.

Then, for these keywords, we collected all the communities - we got 12 community groups for each brand.

For example, for Toyota, many communities of the type were found:
toyota camry,
TOYOTA MARK II,
Toyota Supra Family,
TOYOTA Camry Corolla Club,
TOYOTA CELICA. Official Group №1”,
"Toyota Camry V30" and the like.

These are live communities, mainly the owners of these car brands, where the problems of this model are actively discussed, photos are posted and the owners communicate - that is, our most target audience. These are the communities that we prioritize.

We decided to start with the most popular brands:
Toyota(a wide range of budget or rather old cars that most likely need spare parts)
Honda(machines are mostly more expensive, but also very popular and there are many owners of older models who are likely to need spare parts)

Further, users were taken through Cerebro, consisting of at least two of the collected groups on these brands, in order to cut off the non-target audience. It is clear that in this way we cut off some part of the right people, for whom one community according to their brand of car is quite enough.
But on the test, it was important for us to work out the target audience as much as possible, which, if necessary, could then be expanded, so we made such a reduction.

What worked

Let's demonstrate some teasers from the side target, which gave a good entry price.

According to JDM audience. For those who don't know, the teaser is made in the characteristic style of the JDM culture and is easily recognizable by the target audience.

The Japanese woman worked well for Toyota owners 🙂

We showed Honda owners with JDM logo to Honda owners.

A promo post that showed good results

But this promo post, on the contrary, turned out to be unsuccessful. The entry cost was expensive. The idea was to get motorists interested in a post-article with a provocative headline. Alas, it didn't work.

Eventually by side target and special format we got quite reasonable results

Total spent: 4279,83 ruble
Total clicks received: 1020
Total entries received: 284
Best Transition Cost: 2,7 R.
Best Entry Cost: 5,48 R.
Intro Conversion: 20.98 %

General numbers for promo posts

We spent less on promo posts, the results were as follows
Total spent: 639 , 44 R.
Total entries: 78
Best entry price: 4.51 p.

During the test campaign, the community grew by 284 people with targeted advertising.

Also, during the test, requests, questions and applications were received.

The client was satisfied and left a review.

Well, at the end of the general screen from the advertising account

If you want to start a profitable and stable business, we recommend that you open an auto parts store. Spare parts are always needed - the number of cars in Russia is growing, and the quality of roads is constantly falling. With the right approach to business, you can quickly recoup all investments made and even create a whole chain of stores.

Introduction

Despite the outbreak of the crisis, there were no fewer cars on the roads. Few people switched to public transport - people continue to drive private cars as before. Some employees have even increased the number of trips - more meetings and consultations are needed to maintain the desired level of sales of goods.

Even those who have been directly affected by the crisis do not put the car on a joke - they simply reduce the number of trips. But if something happens to the car, they will definitely repair it. And for repairs, spare parts are always needed. Let's figure out what start auto parts business and what is needed for this.

How to start

First of all, study your competitors. Surely in your locality there are shops selling spare parts. Visit them, consider the range of products and prices, opening hours and location. Think about how to get local service stations and car repair shops interested in buying parts from you. Perhaps you can offer them preferential prices or short delivery times.

The auto parts store is a fairly profitable and interesting business. Initially, you will not have many customers - out of habit, people will go to buy spare parts in trusted stores. But if you trade competently, sell only high-quality spare parts and arrange various promotions, then you will quickly fill your customer base. And yet — people buy parts all the time. There will be no such principle as in an electronics store when a person makes one purchase every 2-3 years. The car is constantly in need of spare parts.

Types of spare parts stores

Shops selling spare parts fall into two broad categories:

  1. Internet shops.
  2. classic stores.

Classic stores are also divided into several types. Some are engaged in the sale of spare parts exclusively on order, the second have their own warehouse and showcase, and others sell only parts for certain types of cars.

For a small parts store, it is usually enough to register a regular IP. This will allow you to save on taxes and quickly submit reports without unnecessary headaches. If you want to open a large store, conclude contracts for the supply of spare parts to well-known service stations, etc., then it is better to choose an LLC. This will allow you to get more customers, but will increase your tax rate.

Your store should have everything from oils to tires

Requirements for the premises

Any cost of starting a business can be divided into two types:

  1. Permanent (salaries, taxes, rent, purchase of goods, repairs).
  2. One-time (purchase of premises, equipment, registration and furniture costs).

One of the main expense items will be the building for your store. If you plan to open a full-fledged establishment, then you need to find a room with a size of 50 m2 (preferably at least 80 square meters), which should be divided into a warehouse, a trading floor and a staff room. It is best if the premises are located near a car wash or car services, near garage cooperatives, near a major highway or in residential areas. The building must have running water, sewerage, electricity, ventilation and a fire alarm system. The best option would be a room with two entrances: customers will come through the main one, goods will be imported through the back one. There should be at least a minimum amount of parking in front of the building itself. From the equipment you will need strong racks, showcases and racks.

For accounting, you will need a computer with appropriate software, internet, telephone and furniture.

Online store

An online store allows you to organize a business with minimal investment. To do this, you only need an office (you can even work from an apartment). You will save on:

  1. Rent.
  2. Personnel.
  3. Public services.

Many novice businessmen open an online store and resell spare parts by buying them in classic stores. This is the wrong approach that will not bring you serious profit. It’s more correct to buy the most popular goods on your own and ship immediately after placing an order, rather than running around the city looking for the right part.

An online store can significantly expand the list of your customers.

Some warehouses allow you not to buy goods, but to take them for sale. This is a great option for online stores.

let's consider how to open an auto parts store from scratch and take goods for sale without investing in it.

You will need a website that you can order from freelancers or create yourself on numerous free engines. Then you will need to promote it in search engines for given key queries. After that, you will have real visitors who will place orders, and you will send them goods. To take it for sale, you need to agree with suppliers . Usually they give goods for sale, subject to a monthly return of a certain amount to them. If you go for it, you can significantly save on investments.

But usually an online store is opened not as a separate business, but as an addition to an existing one. When you have an active parts store, you will open your website in order to attract a large number of customers.

Staff and assortment

You will need:

  1. Shop assistant.
  2. Administrator-accountant.
  3. Loader-cleaner.

At the initial stages, you can perform the role of administrator and accountant. In this case, you only need a seller, who can also become a loader. But in the future it is necessary to hire people for this work.

To select an assortment, you need to decide what exactly you will sell. Perhaps you will focus on domestic cars. Or for trucks. Or any specific brand. You should always have in stock all spare parts and consumables:

  1. Motor oils and other technical liquids.
  2. Ball joints, gaskets, various rubber bands, etc.
  3. Optics.
  4. Tires, wheels.
  5. Glass.
  6. Spare parts for chassis repair (shock absorbers, springs, struts, etc.).
  7. Candles, screws, wipers, pumps, first aid kits, etc.

In order to successfully compete with competitors, it is necessary to set prices by 5-10 percent less by organizing high-quality delivery of spare parts on order. You should have both original spare parts and “analogues” in your assortment - people often buy cheaper goods.

A separate building will allow you to open an additional business - a car wash or tire fitting

Suppliers

Where to find suppliers? On the Internet, in newspapers, in the media. You need to select several quality sellers who will not only offer the right assortment, but also guarantee that delivery times will be met. If you constantly miss the deadlines, then the number of customers will drop sharply.

Advertising

You can promote the store even before it opens. Launch an advertising campaign with flyers, banners, streamers. Focus on a good assortment, affordable prices, discounts, minimum delivery times. Hold various promotions and contests, make yourself a good sign, create groups on social networks and topics on local forums. Offer a discount to regular customers, make small discounts for pensioners and students - you need to bet on regular customers.

Profitability

In this article, we present only an example auto parts store business plan , since everything is highly dependent on location and many other factors. To open a standard store with an area of 80 m2, equip it and fill it with goods, you will need about 2 million rubles. Profit for the year with the right approach will be at least 1.4 million rubles, that is, the store will pay off in about 15 months and after that it will begin to bring you additional profit.

In order to raise income, you can organize a car wash or service station near the car dealership. This business has excellent prospects for development, and the profit will be constant and high!

In contact with

The growing number of vehicles on the roads of Russia directly stimulates an increase in demand for their components. Entrepreneurial people know this feature and successfully strive to implement it. We will talk in detail about how to make a business on auto parts in today's article.

general information

Every car needs repairs sooner or later. The older the car gets, the more investment it requires. And as the number of vehicles on our roads increases from year to year, the need for components is growing. The auto parts business, if properly organized, will become a stable source of income.

In addition to spare parts, the company can supply and sell consumables. These include oils, filters, auto accessories and more. When creating your own business, you need to focus on the focus of the region where you plan to open a company.

Perhaps, spare parts will be in great demand not only for passenger cars, but also for trucks, buses or agricultural machinery. Signing a contract for the supply of goods to any auto company will be of great help. In this case, the percentage of the probability of a successful outcome of the case increases many times over.

Market and competitors

The auto parts market is quite large these days. Before thinking about starting a business, analyze it and study the competitors. You may be able to find auto parts business ideas that haven't caught on yet and be the first in the field. Analysis can be done in several ways.

The first, and it is considered the simplest and most inexpensive, is employment in a specialized auto parts store. In a short time, you will be able to thoroughly study the running positions, understand the features that are characteristic of this issue.

If you have no desire to work for hire, you can do an analysis of cars in the region. Find out their age, models, take an interest in problems in auto repair shops. The last way you can resort to before opening an auto parts business is to order an analysis from professionals. In this case, you will receive detailed and detailed information about how the situation has developed at a certain moment.

Project

After studying the data obtained, you must draw up a business plan, on which you will rely not only on organizational issues, but also when planning financial investments. In addition, the project will allow, if necessary, to attract additional funds.

Contracts with suppliers

Thinking about how to organize the sale of auto parts, you need to decide on the range. At the initial stage, preference should be given to the most popular positions. After the list of nomenclature has been identified, it is required to find suppliers and conclude contracts with them.

Some entrepreneurs, taking their first steps in this business, buy goods in wholesale markets or in stores. A good option would be the ability to take auto parts for sale. It is possible to ensure the full-fledged operation of the company without a shortage of goods (especially in the off-season) if you find and conclude written agreements with several suppliers at once.

Don't lose sight of your competitors. Conduct price monitoring. Look for better offers from suppliers. By doing this, you can reduce the cost of goods in your store and make it attractive to customers. Business development will also require tracking trends in the regional car market. Do not disregard the release of new models and modifications of cars.

Start-up capital

To start a business selling auto parts, you need about 30 thousand dollars. With an average turnover of 10 thousand dollars per month and a trade margin of about 20-25%, its profitability will be 20-25%. If you follow all the subtleties and features of the auto business, the store will be able to fully pay for itself in 9-12 months. This figure is considered quite high.

Legal aspects

When choosing auto parts as a business, you should carry out the procedure for registering an individual entrepreneur (IP) or a limited liability company (LLC). This can be done by submitting the appropriate application form to the local tax authority. You will receive a certificate of registration, assignment of a TIN, registration with the Tax Inspectorate, and you will receive the codes of the State Statistics Committee.

In addition, you must register the company with the medical, pension and social insurance funds. The final moment will be the choice of a taxation system, the opening of a current account and the production of a seal. For novice businessmen, given the low turnover, it is best to give preference to individual entrepreneurship. Thus, you can save on taxes and reduce the amount of paperwork.

Location

In parallel with the development of the project and registration with the tax service, it is necessary to resolve the issue of the location of the store. This largely determines the success with which your business will develop. The sale of auto parts will bring big profits if the outlet is located near service stations, garages, and highways. This should be done taking into account the traffic of people: the higher it is, the more customers will notice your store.

The premises can be rented or built from scratch. The first method is simpler for beginner entrepreneurs, since the construction of a building will require considerable investments. In addition, it is worth creating a website. With it, you can sell the most popular items, order spare parts and consumables via the Internet.

Arrangement of the premises, organizational moments

When opening your own auto parts business, you need to come up with a sonorous name for the store. It should reflect the essence of your company and be easy to remember. Make sure your sign is bright and easy to read. The interior and exterior of the store should attract customers to visit it. Install high-quality lighting so that the product is clearly visible. An important point is the availability of parking or convenient access to the outlet.

It is best to adjust the store's work schedule in such a way that the client has the opportunity to purchase goods at the end of the working day and on weekends. This time is convenient for those who repair the car on their own.

Make the store open 24/7 if possible. This is especially true in those cities where federal highways pass. Drivers, "broken" on the road, will certainly look for a store that works around the clock. This will bring additional profit to your company.

Equipment

As such, equipment for a company selling auto parts is not required. Like any point of sale, the store needs to be equipped with racks, showcases, racks and shelves, on which goods can be conveniently and freely placed. Today, for such a business, access to the Internet is important. With it, you can easily and quickly identify and select spare parts by VIN code. This opportunity is especially relevant for owners of foreign cars.

Staff

Having experience in selling auto parts and good knowledge in this industry, you can start working in a store on your own for the first time. With a favorable set of circumstances, the business will begin to develop and grow, there will be a need for additional staff. In this case, it makes sense to involve sales consultants with experience in the automotive industry.

Not being able to do bookkeeping on your own, you need to hire a permanent or visiting accountant. An additional advantage will be the service of an independent master who will be able to assess the breakdown of the car and give an answer to the motorist on the question of what parts will fit his car. His duties may include small minor repairs, which are carried out on the spot.

Finally

After going through all the organizational stages, you will get a ready-made business. Auto parts will be in demand until cars stop breaking down. And modern technology has not yet been able to achieve this. Focus on the quality of the products sold, track the company's pricing policy - and success will surely accompany your business.
