MOGILEV AUTOMOBILE PLANT IM. S.M. KIROVA (MoAZ) - history of the company

Mogilev Automobile Plant named after S.N. Kirov (MoAZ) was founded in 1935 as a car repair plant.

Since the end of the 30s. The Mogilev ArZ actually belonged to defense enterprises, since a significant part of its program consisted of special orders.

After the war MoAZ specialized in the production of steam power plants with power from 10 to 100 hp.

From 1955 to 1968, oil tankers and electric overhead cranes based on GAZ equipment were produced at the plant. In 1960, the production of automobile and earth-moving equipment began.

From 1970 to 1990, the company specialized in the production of dump trucks, underground road trains and self-propelled scrapers. In those years, self-propelled scrapers were supplied to more than 30 countries around the world. Among other things, MoAZ carried out its sales to the countries of Latin America, Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The share of export deliveries of this equipment from the total number of their production was 15-20%.

In 1972, 10 employees of MoAZ were awarded the State Prize of the BSSR for the development of an underground train.

In the 90s, the manufacture of the SMB-049 concrete mixer and the MoAZ-4048 loader was mastered. Also, short-base chassis for a crane installation were produced, and the production of road rollers was launched, the basis for which was the MoAZ-6442 tractor. In addition, the plant presented the first batch of electric cars and launched the production of concrete mixers on the chassis of the Minsk Automobile Plant.

In 2006, the plant became a branch of BelAZ.

MoAZ is one of the oldest enterprises in Belarus and one of the largest manufacturers of automotive equipment in the CIS, which is designed for the construction of dams, roads, underground mining of ore substances, quarrying, as well as for the construction of bridges and tunnels.

At present, the bulk of all the plant's products, which is more than 85% of the total sales of MoAZ, are exported to Russia and the CIS countries.

Product range MoAZ consists of off-road dump trucks, equipment for underground work, special-purpose equipment (garbage trucks, self-propelled rollers, electric cars, chassis for vibration installation), as well as road construction equipment and machines for mining and transport operations (concrete mixer trucks, tractors, bulldozers, loaders, scrapers).

Modern stage: Mogilev Automobile Plant named after CM. Kirov is largest enterprise in the CIS and neighboring countries for the production of automotive equipment designed for the construction of roads, dams, quarrying, underground mining of ore materials and the construction of tunnels and bridges. Mogilev Automobile Plant was awarded an international quality certificate. Such a high rating was awarded to the powerful equipment that is produced on it.

The history of the enterprise begins in 1935, when a car repair enterprise named after S.M. Kirov worked in the place of the present Mogilev Automobile Plant. Not long before the Great Patriotic War, this so-called car repair enterprise was converted to produce aircraft engines, and soon the plant was evacuated. Already after the end of the Great Patriotic War in 1947, at the restored enterprise, the production of “LOCOMOBILES” was launched, after the first installations and various overhead cranes.

And the cars themselves began to be produced only in 1958, on the second of September of that year they launched the production of 1-axle tractors, which were developed at the Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ). The first tractor MAZ-529V was equipped with a 4-cylinder 2-stroke diesel YaAZ-204A (120 hp), a 4-speed gearbox and worked with a 1-axle scraper semi-trailer with a capacity of 4 m 3. It was the first Soviet self-propelled scraper D-357 with a gross weight of 34 tons. Since 1961, the MAZ-529E tractor was produced with a 6-cylinder YaAZ-206K diesel engine (205 hp).

These machines had a pneumatic drive booster for disengaging a 2-disk clutch, an additional 2-speed gearbox, wheel planetary gears, and a rigid springless suspension. Since 1969, the D-357P scraper with a gross weight of 35 tons was produced, consisting of a MoAZ-546P tractor with a YaMZ-238A V8 engine (215 hp), spring suspension and a new 1-seater cab. Later, it was replaced by the MoAZ-6442 tractor (225 hp) for scrapers, heavy semi-trailers and road rollers.

In 1971, a 2-axle articulated dump truck with a load capacity of 20 tons appeared for work in mines and tunnels. It consisted of a tractor model “6401” (2 × 2) with a diesel engine)
