In March 2013, NIPIgazpererabotka completed the adaptation of the basic design to Russian rules and regulations and developed a package project documentation for the LNG plant to pass the state examination.

On September 17, 2012, OAO Yamal LNG signed a license agreement with the chemical concern BASF on the use of natural gas purification technology owned by BASF at the plant being designed. oase».

In April 2013, Yamal LNG signed an agreement with Yamgaz SNC, a consortium of Technip (France) and JGC Corp. (Japan) for the design, supply of equipment, materials and components, construction and commissioning (EPC contract) of a complex for the preparation and liquefaction of natural gas based on the Yuzhno-Tambeyskoye field.

In September 2013, OAO Yamal LNG entered into a contract with Siemens for the supply of elements of a thermal power plant, which is supposed to supply Yamal LNG with electricity and heat. Siemens was to manufacture, deliver, install and run eight gas turbines and other equipment.

In October 2013, Yamgaz SNC selected the American General Electric. The amount of the contract is 600 million dollars.

On December 18, 2013, NOVATEK announced that the Board of Directors of OAO Yamal LNG adopted final investment decision(OIR) for the project. The implementation of the project involved, in addition to the construction of an LNG production plant, the creation of a transport infrastructure, including a seaport and an airport near the village of Sabetta, as well as a transshipment base in the Belgian Zeebrugge to deliver gas to the countries of the Asia-Pacific region during periods of lack of navigation along the Northern Sea Route. At the time of the adoption of the FID, the main tenders were held within the framework of the project and key contracts were concluded. Orders were also placed for long-term equipment (cryogenic heat exchangers, gas turbines, liquefaction line compressors); the first 8 production wells were drilled. The site for the construction of the plant was prepared, the construction of the pile foundation for LNG tanks began, the construction of the seaport and airport began, and more than 70% of the planned LNG production volumes were contracted.

In January 2014, Yamgaz SNC signed a contract with France's Vinci for the construction of four LNG storage facilities with a capacity of 160,000 m³ each.

In January 2014, Yamgaz SNC awarded Japan's Yokogawa Electric to supply integrated control and safety systems (ICSS) for the project.

In July 2014, Yamgaz SNC entered into a contract with China's Offshore Oil Engineering Co. (COOEC) for the manufacture of key gas liquefaction equipment worth $1.623 billion.

On April 27, 2016, from the Chinese port of Qingdao to the port of Sabetta, the first two condensing modules weighing 1000 tons, manufactured by Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry, were sent on a special semi-submersible vessel - the largest and heaviest in the project. In total, 36 modules with a total weight of 180 thousand tons were built in Qingdao. The total mass of equipment for the plant is estimated at 650 thousand tons, of which 150 thousand tons are rack elements (360 modules), and 500 thousand tons are technological modules (111 PCS) .
On September 13, 2017, the last modules for the plant arrived.

By the time the first line was launched, to provide it with electricity, four of the eight planned gas turbine units SGT-800 with a capacity of 47 MW each, manufactured by Siemens, were put into operation at the power plant serving the project.

On November 29, 2017, Yamal LNG JSC received a state permit to commission the main technological facilities the first stage of the LNG plant.

Investment in the project

At the time of the final investment decision (December 8, 2013) taken by the management of OAO Yamal LNG, the capital investments of the project were estimated at 26.9 billion US dollars. Shareholders' investments in the Project prior to the adoption of the FID amounted to USD 2.6 billion.

Contracts for LNG supplies to Europe are based on pricing based, on the one hand, on the British trading floor National Balance Point, on the other hand, on contract prices linked to the level of crude oil prices (the Groningen principle). The contract with CNPC is tied to the so-called "Japanese crude oil cocktail" (JCC), and is calculated using the formula 12.67% × JCC + $0.26.

Fleet

On July 4, 2013, it became known that the Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering won the competition for the production of sixteen ice-class LNG tankers to service the Yamal LNG project, in which seven leading shipyards of the world participated.

A slot reservation agreement was signed with this company, which includes options for the construction, launching, equipment, equipment and supply of Yamalmax class vessels, as well as establishing the preliminary cost of the vessels, the schedule for their production and delivery. The agreement provided for the transfer of the right to finance and purchase tankers to a third party - carrier companies selected by Yamal LNG. The payment for the reservation of shipbuilding capacities amounted to $5.6 billion.

On April 23, 2014, Yamal LNG OJSC published a short list of shipping companies that will serve the LNG plant. It included Sovcomflot, Mitsui and Teekay LNG. Each of the companies was supposed to build a fleet for transporting gas: Sovcomflot - six ships, Mitsui - four, TeekayLNG - six. The cost of one vessel is about $340 million ($5.5 billion for all 16 LNG tankers).

In August 2015, due to Sovcomflot's financial difficulties, Yamal LNG's subsidiary, Yamal Trade Singapore, transferred the rights to five of the six LNG tankers previously intended for Sovcomflot to the Greek shipping company Dynagas. The deal amounted to $1.5 billion. At the same time, long-term charter agreements for these tankers were signed.

The first vessel in the series, the gas carrier Christophe de Margerie, was built in March 2017 and handed over to Sovcomflot. By January 2018, the fleet allowed to work with Yamal LNG was replenished with three more vessels: Boris Vilkitsky, Fedor Litke (both owned by the Greek Dynagas) and Eduard Toll, owned by the Canadian Teekay.

Owners

In June 2005, a blocking stake in OOO Tambeyneftegaz (25.1%) was sold by NOVATEK to a subsidiary of Gazprombank, OOO Gazprombank-Invest.

In July 2005, the license was re-registered for OAO Yamal LNG, established on April 7, 2005, in which Tambeyneftegaz owned 51%, and the British Tambeigas Holdings Ltd, controlled by Nikolai Bogachev, 49%. The Gazprom Group initiated judicial investigations into the illegality of reissuing the license, and Bogachev began negotiations on the sale of the business.

In November 2006, Bogachev sold Tambeyneftegaz LLC and Yamal LNG OJSC. Gazprombank-Invest bought 25% plus one share in OAO Yamal LNG for $5 million. The remaining shares (75% minus one share in OAO Yamal LNG and Tambeyneftegaz) were bought by Alisher Usmanov's structures for $350–360 million.

In May 2009, 51% of the shares of OAO Yamal LNG were purchased from Timchenko's structures by OAO NOVATEK for $650 million and 13.13% of the shares of NOVATEK.

In July 2010, NOVATEK became the owner of a 100% stake in OOO Tambeyneftegaz. The deal amounted to $10 million (In October 2014, Tambeyneftegaz LLC was liquidated).

In September 2011, NOVATEK's share in the authorized capital of JSC Yamal LNG was increased to 100%, but already in October it was reduced to 80% as a result of the sale of a 20% stake in Total.

In September 2013, NOVATEK and CNPC signed a binding agreement on the entry of a Chinese company into the project by selling 20% of Yamal LNG to CNPC.

In November 2013, information appeared in the media that in the future, NOVATEK plans to retain only a controlling stake in the project, and to divide the remaining 10% - 1 share between consortiums of Japanese and Indian companies.

In January 2014, NOVATEK closed the deal to sell 20% of Yamal LNG to CNODC, a CNPC subsidiary. The amount of the transaction is not disclosed, however, according to media reports, the value of the package as of September 2013 was $1 billion.

In December 2015, NOVATEK and the Chinese Silk Road Fund (Silk Road Fund Co Ltd., SRF) signed a contract for the sale of a 9.9% stake in the Yamal LNG project
