Introduction

The key to the success of any institution is the high professionalism of its employees. This is true for libraries as well. How to improve your professional level? One of the fastest and most affordable ways is to read professional literature - books and periodicals. After all, the media, including professional ones, not only broadcast, but also form an ideology, cultural and information policy, influencing the self-awareness of a librarian.
Our list reflects the journals and books for professional reading received by the Central Public Library in 2006-2007.
We hope that with the help of the proposed literature you will be able to continue self-education, and apply fresh ideas in your work, and find a book to your liking.
To make it easier to use our manual, we have divided the materials into sections. Within sections, all publications are listed alphabetically by author or title.

The first section - "Professional periodicals"- introduces you to the periodicals received by the library in 2007. On their pages, you can get acquainted with the best practices of other libraries, borrow some ideas from our colleagues. And to convey your opinion to those who are interested and important, your publications in the professional press will allow, because a librarian is a specialist who, by the nature of his work, has to not only read a lot, but sometimes write.
Each edition presented in the section is provided with brief annotation, which gives information not only about its subject and direction, but also about when it was first published, how often it is published, and also about which department of the library subscribes to it. We also placed email addresses publications with their own websites.
At the end of the section, a separate list contains periodicals published in Russia and not subscribed by our library.

The second section is "Books for professionals"- reflects textbooks, collections of scientific reports, teaching materials covering various issues of advertising and information activities of libraries; its legal, technological, psychological and pedagogical, ethical, organizational and technological aspects. The proposed publications provide recommendations on the use of modern information technologies, highlights topical theoretical and methodological issues of organizing family reading in children's libraries.

The fourth section - "Books for the soul"- introduces the authors and books that won the largest literary awards in 2007. Librarianship - XXI century
Founded in 2002
The scientific and practical collection is an ongoing review, analytical and reference publication, carried out within the framework of the Russian Library Yearbook project, the materials of which are based on monitoring the professional document flow. Published as an appendix to the journal "Librarianship". The first issue was published in 2002 as a pilot edition of 300 copies.
The publication has two main sections: the first includes review and analytical, the second - reference materials. In accordance with its readership and intended purpose, the publications in it are predominantly of a scientific and practical nature, and the collection itself has an interdepartmental and interregional character. The latter means that both the “central” (federal) and regional document flows are comprehensively analyzed, as well as, if possible, what characterizes the activities of departmental library networks. On this basis, in particular, articles are based, concerning, for example, libraries of agricultural, educational - school and university, as well as the network of libraries of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the context of information and library support for science. From the standpoint of library and information support of medical science and practice, the activities of medical and hospital libraries are considered.
The selection of articles for the first, review and analytical section of the collection was carried out, first of all, taking into account innovative trends in the development of librarianship, reflected in certain parts of the document flow. The disclosure of such, for example, its traditional direction as library services, is reflected in the collection from the standpoint of forming a new image of the library and the librarian by increasing the latter's culture of communication with readers and other partners, observing other norms of library ethics. Quite new and having already acquired not only a theoretical, but also a practical basis, was the use of game elements in the maintenance and formation of the library space as a whole.
The materials published in the collection are a kind of "information for reflection" for specialists, initiative, creative works nicks wanting to change in better side position of their libraries.

Main character novel - Daniil Stein, a Jewish youth of Polish origin. When the Germans occupied Poland, he got a job as a translator for the Gestapo to save people and organized the escape of hundreds of people from the Emsky ghetto. In post-war Poland, Stein converts to Catholicism, travels to Israel and preaches Christianity among the Jews. It causes discontent both in Israel and in the Vatican, but this does not stop him from trying to save people. The main belief of the hero and the author is that it doesn’t matter what you believe in, it only matters your personal behavior - makes the novel burningly relevant for our society, devoid of personal responsibility.

Aleksei Illichevsky became the laureate of the Russian Booker Literary Prize for 2007. The jury recognized his novel "Matisse" as the best work of the year written in Russian.

Ilichevsky A. Matisse/ Alexei Ilichevsky // New World. - 2007. - N 2 - S. 8-180.

Once upon a time there was a Muscovite Leonid Korolev, a man of about thirty-five, a former physicist, now a commodity coordinator of a small wholesale office. And he was ... a living corpse. Korolyov was incapable of enjoying simple beings. "He did not fully enjoy the difficult and joyful life, because he always took abundance for a harbinger of scarcity." He was devoured by the desire to “distance, wrap up the black fire of anguish, which now constantly burned him from the inside, spreading to all nooks and crannies ...”
Thus begins the novel Matisse, twice shortlisted for the Big Book Prize, Alexander Ilichevsky. This novel is both classic and shocking, impetuous and thoughtful, modernist and psychological.
If you think that the junior manager of Korolev, tormented by his metaphysical illness, drank bitterly, fell into reflection or introspection, then you are deeply mistaken. He, without thinking twice, went on a wandering around the "invisible" Moscow. In other words, he tried to become a tramp.
Growing up in a boarding school and maturing in a hostel, acutely feeling homelessness throughout his life, a lover of leaving light, leaving things and the past, Korolev was inwardly ready for such an existential escape. Having abandoned an uncomfortable apartment in a house on Malaya Gruzinskaya (for which he had not yet paid off a private loan), a car of a low-profile model, a hateful job for a boring owner, Korolev made his Tolstoy "leaving".
But he studied to be a "secret" physicist, he could become the brain of some space or nuclear project. In the early 90s, having abandoned science, he went to small business, changed a dozen jobs before he got to a relatively stable place. But the "fire of longing" drove him in search of adventure.
Korolev saw a completely different Moscow. Not at all the one he observed as a pedestrian and a car driver. And not even the one in which he looked at the edge, working as an insurance agent (the city of industrial zones, cargo terminals, warehouses, freight stations). Now a completely different, parallel Moscow opened up to him.
It was a truly fantastic, scary, but also bewitching, alluring city. Korolev spent the night in abandoned attics and in old railway cars, explored cellars and dilapidated factory buildings. Through this chaos and confusion, he saw a strange harmony, heard the grinding music of the metropolis. This escape became for him an initiation, a creative act, a step towards transformation. “This campaign seemed like an immersion in true reality. He gradually trained a predatory gaze that swept away the covers of both the constructive debris of modernity and just asphalt. This creative focus gave him the pleasure of rebuilding the city in his own way.

Doris Lessing is the 11th Nobel Prize in Literature winner. And, it seems, for the first time in for a long time The Nobel Committee was guided solely by literary considerations. Yes, the official statement says that the award goes to Doris Lessing for "the author of epic works in which the writer, with her inherent female experience, skepticism and visionary power, subjected the modern fractured civilization to analysis." But of course, keyword here - "epic". Such prose has not been written for a long time, and the writer herself did it a long time ago. Today, she is the oldest recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature ever. No, she is cheerful, and, as they say, representatives of the Swedish Academy could not get through to her right away, because she just went shopping at that time. Lessing's news was by no means stunned. I have already received all conceivable European awards, and now imy notes. Fiction!".

Lessing D. Summer before sunset; Let's get married/ D. Lessing, D. Updike. — M. : ART, 1992. — 384 p.

Doris Lessing's novel "The Summer Before Sunset" is outwardly not rich in events. His heroine is an attractive woman of Balzac's age, who, by chance, finds herself cut off from her usual, calm life. Whether it finds itself in new conditions, whether it asserts itself in its searches, the author leaves it up to his reader to judge.

Another literary victory was won by the weaker sex in the person of the Irish Ann Enright, who became the Booker laureate - 2007 with the family saga "The Meeting".

In addition to the above-mentioned winners of the most famous awards in Russia, I would like to name the winners of other, less "promoted" awards.

Andrey Dementiev, the author of more than forty collections of poetry, became the winner of the Bunin Prize.

The Alexander Nevsky Literary Prize has two winners - Anatoly Smirnov with the biography Nikolai Mikhailovich Karamzin and Pyotr Stegniy with the historical and documentary study Time to Sweep, or the True Servant of Thebes, dedicated to the Catherine era.
